Moving to Learn
In this workshop taught by Margaret Rennerfeldt, classroom teachers, arts specialists, and teaching artists will explore the potential for movement and dance to become part of the school curriculum. This class will provide an exploration and practical application of movement and dance across the curriculum. Emphasis will be placed on actual movement experiences as a group and as an individual and practical application of movement concepts. You will have opportunities to draft lesson plans that integrate movement and dance into your specific content area. The Moving to Learn ideas and activities can help you introduce, re-enforce and remediate curricular concepts.
Rationale: Movement provides an intuitive, affective mode of knowing. Exposure to, and experiences of movement and dance helps in understanding one’s own culture and the culture of others. The basic elements of dance, which, are space, time, force and the body are pivotal concepts in many curricular areas therefore, movement and dance can be integrated with and enhance content areas.
